Background on Project
The draft EIA for the plant was released in June 2021. According to the updated project schedule, the power plant was scheduled to start construction in July 2021. Unit No. 1 was planned to be put into operation in July 2023, and Unit No. 2 in December 2023.[2]
Construction reportedly began in April 2022.[3] In August 2022, a news article reported that the project had again begun construction.[4]
However, with no known permit documents or evidence of construction, the units are presumed still under pre-permit development.
According to a 2023 list of key construction projects in Guangxi, the power project had indeed begun construction in August 2022.[5] The power station was estimated to begin operation in 2025.[5]
A second phase of the power plant (2 x 660 MW units) was reportedly announced in 2023.[5]
