Background

CHPP-27 (originally called Severnaya CHP) is located in the urban district of Mytishchi, Moscow Region. The power plant provides heat and electricity to more than a million consumers in the Northern and North-Eastern districts of Moscow, as well as the city of Mytishchi. Natural gas is used as the main and back-up fuel.CHPP-27 is the newest power plant in the Mosenergo system. The construction of the power plant began in 1987, and on December 25, 1992, the first hot water boilers were put into operation at Severnaya CHPP. The first power unit of CHPP-27 was put into operation in 1996, the second power unit - in 1998. The total electrical capacity of the two power units was 160 MW, the total thermal capacity was 1100 Gcal/h.The construction of combined cycle power unit No. 3 with a capacity of 450 MW began on December 22, 2005. The construction period was 22 months. At the end of November 2007 power unit No. 3 ССGT-450 was put into operation. The construction of power unit No. 4 CCGT-450 started at the beginning of 2007 and was completed in December 2008.Power Unit No. 3 CCGT-450 includes two GTE-160 gas turbine units, two vertical waste heat boilers and a steam turbine. Similar equipment is installed at power unit No. 4 of CHPP-27. Control and management of technological processes of the third and fourth power units is carried out from a single central control panel. The operation of highly efficient combined cycle plants provides a total efficiency of up to 52% and saves up to 30% of gas compared to traditional steam power equipment. In addition, the use of combined cycle technology makes it possible to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.[11]
