CVG Briquetera de Venezuela DRI plant (Briquetera de Venezuela), also known as Briqven, Matesi (predecessor), Posven (predecessor), is a direct reduced iron (DRI) steel plant operating in Ciudad Guayana, Bolívar, Venezuela.

Background
The CVG Briquetera de Venezuela DRI plant traces its origins back to 2000, when it was founded under the name POSVEN by an international consortium led by the Korean company Posco, with minority stakes held by the Corporación Venezolana de Guayana, Daewoo y Hyundai.[1] In 2004 a new consortium led by Techint assumed ownership of the plant, changing its name to Matesi (Materiales Siderúrgicas) and increasing annual iron production to the plant's full capacity of 1.5 million tpa (tonnes per annum).[1]
In 2009, Matesi was nationalized, together with several other Venezuelan steel producers.[1] In December 2010, after nearly two years of inactivity, the plant resumed production under the new name Briqven (Briqueteras de Venezuela).[1] However, DRI output over the ensuing decade has hovered between 0 and 200,000 tonnes per annum[1], with production often severely curtailed or completely halted due to various mishaps, including fires, blackouts, and pellet shortages.[2][3][4][5][6]
