Environmental and Social Justice Issues

The steel industry in the Philippines has been linked to various environmental justice concerns, including air pollution, water contamination, and health hazards among the communities living near steel plants.[1][2] In February 2023, due to instances of respiratory illnesses among residents and the rusting of roofs in at least five villages near the steel plants, the San Simon municipal government in Pampanga province banned the use of induction furnaces (IF) for steelmaking.[3]
