Background

Chaozhou LNG Terminal (Huaying) is a 6 mtpa LNG import terminal under construction in Guangdong, China. It located next to Chaozhou LNG Terminal. The project is sponsored by Huaying Natural Gas Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of a private company Huaying Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd.

The project was approved for construction in July 24, 2019. The construction of the terminal began in December 2020.

The terminal will have three 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks. It will connect with Chaozhou natural gas high-pressure pipeline network and Guangdong provincial pipeline network. The total investment of the project is 7.399 billion yuan ($1.129 billion).

The construction of phase 1 was making progress as of September 2022.

Sinopec Natural Gas Co., Ltd was buying 50% of shares of the project in November 2022, becoming the co-owner of Chaozhou LNG Terminal (Huaying) with Huaying Investment Holding Group.

The construction is ongoing through 2023.

Expansion projects

Phase 2 Expansion

The second phase planned four additional 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, with investment of 4 billion RMB. An additional 3 mtpa will be added to the import capacity.

The second phase was listed into Guangdong 14th Five-Year-Plan for Energy Sector issued in March 2022. It will reportedly add 10 storage tanks with 220,000-270,000 cubic meters each. The total receiving capacity will reach 12 mpta after the expansion project is completed.
