Background

Chaozhou Sanbaimen power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 3,200 MW in Guangdong Province. The first two units, totaling 1,200 MW, were completed in 2006. Units 3 & 4, totaling 2,000 MW, were completed in 2009-2010. The plant is owned by China Datang.[2][3][4]

In December 2022, plans for a 2 x 1,000 MW expansion at the plant were announced in the Guangdong provincial 14th Five Year Plan and the permission to build was granted on 13 April 2023 (粤发改核准〔2023〕8号)[5]. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report[6] and land use[7] have been approved by the local government.
