Background

The Ciments du Maroc Laayoune Grinding Plant has operated since 1982, with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes of cement annually. It has been accused of being an attempt to further the Moroccan colonization of Western Sahara by attracting settlers and development, displacing the Sahrawi people.
