Background
In July 2022, the oil and gas publication Upstream reported unconfirmed speculation that Eni was considering the possibility of deploying a second floating liquefied natural gas vessel in Mozambique. A company spokesperson said: "Eni and its partners are actively evaluating all technical solutions to allow timely production of Mozambique's considerable gas resources."[2]
In June 2023, AllAfrica reported that Eni was planning to build the project, known as Coral North, as a duplicate of the Coral South FLNG Terminal project. Coral North FLNG Terminal will be anchored 10 kilometers from the Coral South platform. The project will have a capacity of 3.37 mtpa and is expected to cost US$7 billion. According to the current calendar, the project would begin operation in the second half of 2027.[1]
