The Cyprus-Turkey Gas Pipeline, also known as the Turkey-TRNC Natural Gas Pipeline, is a proposed gas pipeline in Türkiye and Cyprus.
Location
The offshore section of the pipeline would parallel the existing Northern Cyprus Water Supply system, which runs from Anamur, Mersin Province, Türkiye to Güzelyalı, Karsiyaka, Northern Cyprus.[1]

Background
In 2016, an energy protocol was signed that proposed an electricity cable link and natural gas pipeline between Türkiye and Northern Cyprus. The gas pipeline was proposed to run parallel to a current waterline. Türkiye confirmed in 2019 that plans were ongoing, with first gas possible in 2025. The pipeline was planned to be around 80 km, with bi-directional capabilities.[3][4]
An economic feasibility study in 2021 examined the possibility of a 3.10 bcm/year pipeline from Cyprus to Türkiye, and estimated that an offshore segment from Anamur, Türkiye, to Northern Cyprus, would cost around $337,591,286. The study envisioned an extended route from wellheads off the southern coast of Cyprus to Vasilikos, then to Girne, then to Mersin Province (Türkiye), and onto Ankara (Türkiye).[2] Only the Anamur-North Cyprus (Turkey-TRNC) segment was discussed in the media.
This pipeline proposal was seen by some as an alternative to the East Med Gas Pipeline.[5] Thanks to the bi-directional nature of the pipeline, it would allow future gas from Cypriot fields to be distributed throughout Europe through Türkiye, bypassing the need for the East Med Gas pipeline.
The pipeline has not been discussed in the media since 2019, so it is presumed to be cancelled.
