Background

According to the environmental clearance, "Coal linkage has been obtained from SECL. Source of water will be from Sarveshwar and Sarvamangala anicuts."

In 2013, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) cancelled the environmental clearance, stating that the MoEF had violated its own regulations to grant approval to the project, despite a moratorium on further projects in the highly polluted Korba district.
