Background on Mine

The Durgapur Opencast mine has a designed capacity of 2.3 MTPA in an area of 1354.64 ha. The mine received environment clearance vide letter J-11015/ 66 /2006 IA.II(M)from MoEF&CC on 30 March 2007.[1] The EC for further expansion of the mine was granted on 16 March, 2012 to Durgapur Opencast expansion project from 2.30 MTPA to 3 MTPA in a reduced mine lease area of 1186.54 ha.[2]

The Durgapur Opencast Expansion Project got further clearance for deeper mining over an extended area of 1622.50 ha with no change in the capacity.[3] The mine currently operates under the name Durgapur Extension Deep OC Phase-II coal mine
