Background on Mine

The Durgapur Opencast mine has a designed capacity of 2.3 MTPA in an area of 1354.64 ha. The mine received environment clearance vide letter J-11015/ 66 /2006 IA.II(M)from MoEF&CC on 30 March 2007. The EC for further expansion of the mine was granted on 16 March, 2012 to Durgapur Opencast expansion project from 2.30 MTPA to 3 MTPA in a reduced mine lease area of 1186.54 ha.

The Durgapur Opencast Expansion Project got further clearance for deeper mining over an extended area of 1622.50 ha with no change in the capacity. The mine currently operates under the name Durgapur Extension Deep OC Phase-II coal mine
