Background

As of 2022, the power plant's total installed capacity is 198 MW: two turbines of 35 MW, one turbine of 42 MW, and one turbine of 86 MW.[11] The available capacity is 130 MW.[12] Given this information, it is assumed that two units are currently operational (42 MW; 86 MW).

The power station sources natural gas from Uzbekistan.[12] There were claims on the retirement of the plant in 2018 after the new Dushanbe-2 power station's commissioning, yet it appears that Dushanbe-1 power station is operating in 2022.[13][11][12]

The power station operates only in autumn and winter when electricity generated by hydropower plants is insufficient to meet domestic market demand.[14]
