Background
Fangchenggang LNG Terminal (中海油防城港LNG储运站) is a proposed LNG Storage terminal in Guangxi, China. In November of 2016 a coordination meeting was help to resolve key technical issues and prepare for commissioning of the system.[6]
In 2018 the project was reported to be under construction.[7] In January 2019 CNOOC began trial operations.[8]
The terminal was commissioned in January 2019.[9]
Ownership Change
In February 9, 2019, the National Petroleum and Natural Gas Pipeline Group Co., Ltd. (PipeChina) was established with a major focus on the investment and construction of the long-distance oil and gas pipeline network and storage & peaking facilities, offering fair and open oil and gas pipeline transmission services. [10]10 existing and under-construction LNG terminals were reportedly transferred or are going to transfer their ownerships to PipeChina.[11] Fangchenggang LNG terminal is one of them.
Phase II
The second phase of the LNG Terminal was mentioned in The 14th Five-Year Plan for High-quality Development of Guangxi Beibu Bay Economic Zone[12] and the 14th Five-Year Plan on Energy in Guangxi[13]. As of March 2023, news reports indicated that the project was in the early development stage. [14]
