Background

The Fasa Steel Complex Company was announced in the late 2000s. It was originally going to be built in three phases: the first phase would consist of an electric arc furnace (EAF) plant of 1500 tonnes and an iron-making plant (DRI module) of 1700 tonnes; the second phase would have had similar capacities, and the third phase was never detailed.[1] The project budget for the first phase was around $727 million was expected to be completed in two years.[1]

Construction began in 2010.[2] However, there has been no public update on the project since 2011, so the project has been considered mothballed.
