Background
Contugas operates the gas distribution network in the Ica region of southern Peru. The system includes a main pipeline of about 280 kilometers, with additional secondary and branch lines that extend the network to over 1,000 kilometers in total. It was built to transport natural gas from the Camisea project (via connections to Transportadora de Gas del Perú’s network) to supply households, businesses, and industries in Ica, Pisco, Chincha, Nazca, and nearby towns. The infrastructure was designed to expand access to natural gas beyond Lima, but demand growth has been slower than expected, leaving the system underutilized.[1]
