Background

Gas Natural del Noroeste (GNN) is a Mexican natural gas distributor owned by US-based Black Hills Energy, formerly SourceGas. Founded in 1996, the firm receives, transports, delivers and sells natural gas through pipelines in the area of Hermosillo, Guaymas, and Empalme. The company also provides technical consultancy, maintenance and operation services for natural gas facilities, meter calibration and leak repairs, implementation of emergency systems, among others. In 2016, it was awarded a construction and operation contract for 21 years of the Ramal Hermosillo pipeline in Sonora, with a transport capacity of 100Mf3/d.[2]

The 16-inch pipeline extends 48 km from a junction with the Sásabe-Guaymas Gas Pipeline to the Hermosillo combined cycle power plant in Sonora state.[1] It became operational on March 28, 2018.[1]
