Background

Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd., a public Ltd. Co., formally Ispat Godawari Ltd, is an integrated steel plant with captive power generation incorporated on 21 September, 1999.[2][3] The commercial operations of the plant began in 2001 with its first sponge iron unit. In 2004, the plant first expanded its capacity to 130 ttpa sponge iron, 100 ttpa steel billets. Over the years the plant has expanded its capacity five fold its initial capacity to become the third largest producer of sponge iron in India.[4]

Currently, the plant is undergoing modernisation and enhancement of its capacity by expanding its steel melting shop from 400 ttpa to 700 ttpa by installation of additional furnaces.[5] Under the modernisation and enhancement project, the DRI capacity was expanded by 100 ttpa in FY22 and the expansion of steel melting shop is expected to be completed by Q2FY24.[6][7]
