Background
In April 2023, Golar LNG announced that it had signed a heads of agreement (HOA) with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the development of a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility at one of Nigeria's offshore gas fields.[1] The MOU has a 5-year duration. Golar could potentially deploy the FLNG Hilli following the end of its current contract in mid-2026 or a MKII FLNG.[5]
In June 2024, LNG Prime reported that NNPC and Golar LNG signed a Project Development Agreement (PDA), and planned to take a final investment decision (FID) on the project in 2024.[3]
In November 2024, Golar LNG said it did not expect FID by the end of the year due to the available FLNGs not being suitable for the project. The company stated it was likely a suitable unit would be available within 2025.[4]
