The Grosvenor West coal project was a proposed underground or opencast coking coal mine, which is considered lapsed by the Queensland Government. The proposed site is located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Moranbah, and 160 km south-west of Mackay, in Central Queensland, Australia.[1]

The proposal was for the mine to last 20 years, with first coal production proposed from late 2015.[1]

Coal Mine Background

The final Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was issued to the proponent, Carabella Resources on 18 October 2012. Carabella Resources originally had until 18 October 2014 to prepare the EIS and submit it to the department for assessment, but the proponent requested, and was granted, an extension of a year. However, the EIS was not submitted by the due date. Consequently, the terms of reference have ceased to have effect. If the proponent wishes at some stage to resume the EIS process, it would be necessary to go back to the beginning of the process at the draft terms of reference stage.[1]

In January 2014, Wealth Resources acquired Carabella Resources and are looking to bring forward the Grosvenor West Project and have commenced operations at the Bluff coal project.[3]

Additionally, Wealth Resources is owned by Kingho Investment Company, which is in turn wholly owned by China Kingho Energy Group.[4]
