Background on Project
Shenhua Group is building a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW in Shandong Province.[3] Construction is planned to take place from 2014 to 2016.[4]
The power station was permitted in 2014.[2] The new units are part of the "big pressure on the small" national policy and will replace smaller coal-burning units.[5]
Unit 1 began operating in July 2016, and unit 2 in December 2016.[6]
In September 2023, a feasibility study tender for a 2 x 1,000 MW Phase II expansion was announced at Guohua Shouguang power station.[7]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[8][9] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[10]
