Background

This power station is not to be confused with the previously proposed Suizhou power station.

Huaneng Suizhou Power Company, a subsidiary of Huaneng International, was the first to propose to build a  2 x 660MW coal-fired power plant in Suizhou and was granted a permit in July 2015.[3][4] But the project did not develop further until National Energy Changyuan Suizhou Power Generation Co. Ltd. took over and signed a contract with Hubei Suizhou local government at the end of 2019.[5] Hubei Province Development and Reform Commission issued another permit (鄂发改审批服务〔2020〕102号) for National Energy Changyuan Suizhou Power Generation Co. Ltd. to build the 2 x 660 MW power plant at the same site.[6][7]

Construction of the project reportedly started in November 2020 with a ceremony[8] but the first pot of concrete was only poured into the main structure at the end of June 2021.[9]

On 16 July 2023, unit 1 of the Suizhou power plant successfully completed 168 hours run and entered commercial operation.[10]
