Hanchuan power station (国电汉川发电厂) is a 3,260-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Hubei Province, China.

Background on Plant

Hanchuan power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant under development with a total capacity of 3,260 MW, located in Hubei Province and owned by National Energy Investment Group. The first four units, totaling 1,200 MW, were completed between 1991 and 1998. Unit 5, totaling 1,000 MW, was completed in 2012.[1][2]

Unit 6, also 1,000 MW, is planned for completion in 2016.[3] It was commissioned in August 2016.[4]

Ownership

On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[5][6] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[7]
