Background

Tha power station was originally built in 1959. It has 4 coal-fired power units with total capacity of 350MW by 1998. [5] The station was owned by Huadian Hangzhou Banshan Power Generation Company.[6]

In 2003, the first long distance gas pipeline in the country West-East Gas Pipeline 1 reached Zhejiang, bringing natural gas from northwest of China to the region. A 3-unit gas power station with 390MW each was built in 2005 at the same location by the same sponsor.[7][8] The four coal power units were shut down in 2007, 2014 and 2015.[9] Another 3-unit of the second phase for the gas power station with 1,245MW were commissioned in 2013. [8] This brought the total gas-fueled operating capacity to 2,415 MW.[8]
