Hebei Cangdong power station (国家能源集团河北沧东发电厂) is an operating power station of at least 3180-megawatts (MW) in Xincun Town, Lingang, Cangzhou, Hebei, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 神华国华沧东发电厂; Huanghua Cangzhou power station, 国能河北沧东电厂三期2x660兆瓦机组扩建工程.

Background
Hebei Cangdong power station (formerly referred to as the Huanghua Cangzhou power station) is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,520 MW. The plant was completed between 2005 and 2009, and was originally owned by Shenhua.[5][6]
It is located within Huanghua Port area, which is also owned by Shenhua Guoup. Huanghua Port is the No.1 coal port in China. Its coal throughout reached 270 million tons in 2017. The power station was built on the artificial land and is using desalted sea water. The power plant features its "no fresh water consumption, no land occupation, and no coal source transportation".[7]
Expansion
On December 29, 2022, an additional 2 x 660 MW units were permitted.[8][9][10]
This 2×660MW expansion project received approval in December 2022[11] and progressed through design and equipment procurement in 2023[12].
In 2024, construction activities accelerated with the start of the foundation work[13] and the first concrete pour for the chimney in August[14].
Construction continued through 2025[15], and Unit 5 was successfully commissioned in June 2026[16].
Unit 6 construction progressed alongside Unit 5, with installation work continuing throughout 2025-2026.
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[17][18] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[19]
