Background
Heshan power station was founded in 1967. There were 8 units, totaling 505MW. Units 1-3 were retired in 2000. Units 4-7 were retired in 2007. Unit 8 was retired in 2010.[1]
The two remaining coal-fired units of Heshan power station, units 9-10 totaling 660 MW, were brought online in 2004.[2] The plant is owned by China Datang.[3]
In 2011 China Datang completed an additional coal-fired unit at this plant, unit 11 with a capacity of 670 MW, raising the plant's total capacity to 1,330 MW.[3][4][5]
Proposed unit 12 expansion
In 2015 China Datang was permitted to expand the power station by another unit of 670 MW, unit 12.[6]
Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity
In January 2017 China's National Energy Administration proposed for suspension over 100 planned and under-construction coal power projects, including Datang Heshan unit 12. The projects are proposed to postpone development for after 2020.[7]
