Background

Guangdong East Sun Alumimumn Industrial Development is owner of the plant, which is fueled by low-quality waste coal. The first two 135MW units began operating in 2005. Two more units of 300MW each were added in 2008, [2]and again in 2012. All units use circulating fluidized bed technology.[3]

Two 1,000 MW units were proposed to be built at the same site[4][5]. The project was listed in the 2023 Guangdong key projects list[6].

The owner is currently actively responding to energy security strategic deployments from governments at all levels by undertaking application work for the Phase IV expansion project (two 1000MW resource comprehensive utilization units).[7]
