Background

The Holcim Lebanon plant in Chekka was established in 1929. It currently has the capacity to produce up to 2.3 million tonnes of cement annually.

In May 2025, the Chekka quarries upon which the plant relies for raw materials were shut down by the government as a result of environmental violations.
