Background

As of December 2024, the Chinese company Hongshi Holding Group planned to invest US$5 billion in the development of an industrial park in Indonesia. The park was planned to produce silicon, polysilicon, and batteries. The investment would involve the construction of a 2 gigawatt (GW) coal-fired power station.

In May 2025, reporting on the development referred to information from Badan Penghubung Pemerintah Provinsi Jawa Barat (West Java Provincial Government Liaison Agency). The location of the industrial park was therefore presumed to be West Java Province.
