Background

The unit will be built on the territory of Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant. The Eurasian Development Bank provided financing in the amount of USD 26 million to H Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Tashir Group.[5] At the first stage, 4 gas-piston generators of 12.5 MW will be installed. At the second stage, it is planned to double the capacity of the station to reach 100 MW. MAN Energy Solutions will provide equipment for the power plant.[6]

The gas piston unit will become the first unit of such type in Armenia and also the first one to be constructed without state guarantees for purchase of the generated electricity, i.e. the company is building the unit at its own risk with the purpose of selling electricity on the wholesale electricity market. In July 2023, a credit agreement for USD 26 million was signed between the Eurasian Development Bank and H Energy Solutions (a part of the Tashir Group) to finance the construction of the new power plant.[7]

As of September 2023, the ground work, which does not require licensing has begun. The company has not applied for permits yet. The construction is expected to be completed in July-August 2024, and the unit is planned to become operational in September-October 2024.[5] As of March 2024, there have not been any updates about the project.
