Background

Huaneng Dalian Power Station, founded on August 1, l986, is located in Dalian Bay New Village, Ganjingzi District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. The power plant is on the outskirts of Dalian, on the coast of Bohai Bay and comprises four 350MW coal-fired units built in 1988 to 1999.[1] It is a state-owned large-scale thermal power station which is wholly-owned by Huaneng International Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group Corporation.[2][3]

Huaneng Dalian Power Station has a total installed capacity of 1400MW, which was completed in two phases, and is a key construction project during the national "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan" periods. The two phases with four units were officially put into operation in 1988 and 1998 respectively. The first phase is two 350,000-kilowatt subcritical intermediate reheat coal-fired condensing units manufactured by Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation. The second phase is two units of the same type jointly manufactured by Siemens Westinghouse and Mitsui Babcock. With advanced equipment selection, compact arrangement, high economy and perfect protection function, it is a modern thermal power plant with a high degree of automation in China. By the end of 2010, a total of 139 billion kWh of power generation had been completed.[2]
