Background

Luoyang Sunshine power station began as a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 270 MW. The plant was completed in 2006. After many ownership changes, the plant was eventually bought by Luoyang Sunshine Thermal Power Company of China Huaneng.[1]

In July 2019 it was reported that Luoyang Sunshine Thermal Power Company had declared bankruptcy. Units 1-2 will only operate in the winter for heating.[2] The units were retired and then demolished in 2020.[3]

Expansion

China Huaneng planned to build an additional two units at the power station with a total planned capacity of 700 MW.[4][5]

Construction began in 2013. The units went into operation in June 2015.[6]
