Hubei Ezhou power station (湖北能源鄂州发电厂) is an operating power station of at least 3960-megawatts (MW) in Gedian District, Huarong, Ezhou, Hubei, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating.

Background
The first four coal-fired units of Ezhou power station, totaling 1,960 MW, were brought online between 1999 and 2010. The plant is owned by Hubei Energy Group.[2]
Description of First Expansion (Units 5 & 6)
Hubei Energy Group is currently planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, units 5-6, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW.[3][4][2]
The project received environmental clearance in June 2015,[5] and began construction in September 2015.[6]
Unit 5 was commissioned in April 2019.[7]
Unit 6
July 2017: Unit 6 postponed by government
In July 2017 China's NEA released the "Guideline of Supply-Side Reform of the Coal Power Bubble". The Guideline included a draft list which slowed down or halted 185 coal-burning units across 21 provinces, totaling 107 GW. 114 coal units (65 GW) are ordered to slow down the construction progress during 2017 to 2020, and are not allowed to connect to the grid in 2017. In addition, 71 coal units (42 GW) were halted indefinitely for regulation violations. The list partly overlapped with the projects listed in the January NEA letter to 13 provinces.[8]
Hubei Ezhou power station Unit 6 is among the postponed coal-burning units,[8] and also appeared on an updated list of postponed projects released in September 2017.[9]

May 2018: Construction continues on Unit 6
Construction continues on Unit 6 and as of late May 2018, photos on Google Earth show the project to be substantially complete.
June 2019: Unit 6 commissioned
Unit 6 was commissioned in June 2019.[10]
Expansion: Phase IV (Units 7 & 8)
In October 2022, it was reported that the municipal government and Hubei Energy Group Co., Ltd. had signed the "Hubei Energy Ezhou Power Plant Phase IV (2×1000MW) Expansion Project Investment Agreement."[11] The expansion would consist of two ultra-supercritical units.[11]
In January 2023, the Environmental Impact Assessment for the expansion was completed, [12] and the units were permitted shortly thereafter.[13]
