Project details

Background

The Hydeal Espana Pipeline refers to the Hydrogen transportation infrastructure associated with the Hydeal Espana project. The project aims to build 3.4-7.4 GW of electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen (mainly powered by solar energy), which will then be transported to various industrial clusters in Northern Spain.[3]

The pipeline consists of two main parts as follows:[3]

East route: Benavente-Oviedo

This route will follow the Ruta de la Plata Gas Pipeline north from Benavente, up to Oviedo where it will connect to an industrial cluster including AccelorMittal and Fertiberia.

West route: Oviedo-Zaragoza

This route starts in Oviedo, and then follows the Villapresente–Oviedo Gas Pipeline, the Bilbao–Villapresente Gas Pipeline and the north-south section of the País Vasco Gas Pipeline. It then continues west along the Haro-Aragon Hydrogen Pipeline and terminates in Zaragoza.

It is expected that contingent upon the completion of the H2Med project, the hydrogen infrastructure will be connected to a network that includes pipelines to Portugal and France.
