Background
The public notice of the social stability risk assessment of Inner Mongolia Energy’s Baotou power station was put out by the Shiguai District local government on 29 May 2024[2]. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) notice was published by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Ecological Environment Bureau in July 2024[3]. According to the EIA report[1], the permit to build was received at the end of June 2024.
News noted that construction started with the pouring of concrete into the foundation of boiler house in June 2025[4] and was scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026[5].
