Network background

Inner Mongolia is the major gas production region in China. According to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's 14th Five-year-Plan on Oil and Gas Development, the supply of conventional gas, coal-to-gas, and coal-bed methane in 2025 will reach 39.38 billion cubic meters, and the demand in the autonomous region will be about 12 billion cubic meters. The rest will supply areas outside Inner Mongolia. The conventional natural gas supply mainly comes from Sulige, Daniudi and Dongsheng gas field in the Ordos Basin. 33 natural gas and coal-to-gas pipelines were added from 2016 to 2020, totalling 5057.8 kilometers. 90.97 billion cubic meters of gas were transferred every year during that period. The gas pipelines have reached 40 banners or counties. [1] The goal for the 14th Five-Year-Plan period, 2021-2025, is to reach 7909.9 kilometers of gas pipeline mileage, and cover more than 66% of its banners (equivalent to counties). [1]

“十三五”期间，全区新增天然气（煤制气）管道 33 条，区内里程 5057.8 公里，年输送能力909.7 亿立方米。管道气已覆盖 8 个盟市、40 个旗（县、区）。

“十四五”期间，常规天然气供应仍主要来自鄂尔多斯盆地苏里格气田、大牛地气田、东胜气田等。常规气、煤制气、煤层气 2025 年供应量约 393.8 亿立方米，自治区内需求量约120亿立方米，自治区天然气作为国内天然气供应资源外输省份，调出量约为 273.8 亿立方米。

到 2025 年，天然气年产量达到333 亿立方米，较“十三五”末增长 20.0%，原油年产量达到150 万吨，较“十三五”末增长 25.7%。 2.基础设施。到 2025 年，油气管网里程达到9649 公里，区内天然气管道纳入“全国一张网”，储气能力达到2.8 亿立方米，管道天然气覆盖 66%以上旗（县、区）。[1]

Baotou-Linhe Gas Pipeline 包头-临河输气管道

Baotou-Linhe Gas pipeline 包头-临河输气管线 is an operating natural gas pipeline in China.[6]

On October 25, 2021, the Baotou-Linhe gas pipeline project of the Western Natural Gas Company was officially approved by the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.[7]

In 2023, the project has completed its preliminary preparation stage and is ready for construction. The construction will start officially once the bidding process is finished. This project will be the first gas pipeline that can transport hydrogen in China.[8] According to the company, the percentage of hydrogen blended in the pipeline is 10%.[9]

As of March 10, 2023, the pipeline was the first domestic high-pressure long-distance natural gas pipeline mixed with green renewable energy --- green hydrogen production in China.[10]

The pipeline runs from the Changqing Gas Field near Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China, to Linhe, Ningxia, China.

Dadong Gas Pipeline 大东输气管道（大牛地-东胜）

The Daniudi-Dongsheng gas pipeline starts at the 59th gas collecting station in the Daniudi gas field, passes through Bojianghaizi and Hantai towns, and terminates in Dongsheng District, Ordos. Construction began in November 2016, with a total investment of RMB 447 million. The pipeline opens up the northern exit of the Daniudi Gas Field and transports natural gas from the Yulin area of ​​Shaanxi to the Hohhot, Baotou and Ordos areas of Inner Mongolia, thus alleviating the pressure of tight gas supply in the region.[20]

Tongliao-Holingol Gas Pipeline 通辽—霍林郭勒天然气管道

The pipeline is a segment of the Changtu-Tongliao-Holingol Gas Pipeline. The Changtu-Tongliao-Holingol Gas Pipeline is the only long-distance and high-pressured gas pipeline in Eastern Inner Mongolia Region.[43] The pipeline's source is the Harbin-Shenyang Pipeline.[44] 51% stakes of the operating company, Tongliao Longshengfeng Natural Gas Co., Ltd, was purchased by Shuifa Energas Gas Co., Ltd.(水发派思燃气股份有限公司) in 2021.[45]

The pipeline is part of the Wulanchabu 0.1 mtpa Wind-solar Hydrogen Production Integrated Demonstration Project. It includes wind-solar hybrid power generation, a hydrogen production capacity of 0.1 mtpa, and a 400-kilometre long-distance hydrogen transmission pipeline to supply hydrogen to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei refining and chemical market.[58]

The project is a proposed hydrogen pipeline in Inner Mongolia, China.[61]

The pipeline, also known as the "Inner Mongolia Hydrogen Energy Corridor", transports the hydrogen produced by the Yellow River Group's hydrogen energy "production-storage-transportation-marketing" demonstration project in Wuhai City to Hohhot City through the large-scale clean energy base which is near the Yellow River in Inner Monglia. [61]
