Background

Unit 1 was commissioned in May 2008, and Unit 2, in June 2012. Since 2013, the plant's installed electric capacity has been 325 MW (unit No. 2 is in operation, unit No. 1 has been permanently mothballed).[11] In July 2021, the company has announced its plans to refurbish Unit 1 and bring it back into operation.[12] This additional capacity increase has also appeared in the Ministry of Energy 2021-2027 energy program published in February 2021, with the expected start-up date of 2024,[13] and in the 2022-2028 energy program released in February 2022, with the expected start-up date of 2024.[14]

In February 2022, the general director of the station confirmed the company's intent to continue realizing the project of refurbishing Unit 1 in 2022.[15] As of June 2022, it appears that construction of Unit 1R was ongoing.[16][17] In July 2022, various equipment for this project has been stored at the plant's storage facilities.[18] According to Russian Ministry of Energy 2023-2028 energy program released in February 2023, the replacement of Unit 1 will be completed in 2024.[19]In March 2023, it was mentioned in the media that implementation of the project at the Ivanovo CHP was in progress and according to the schedule.[20] The Ministry of Energy 2024-2029 energy program published in November 2023 includes the project with the commissioning date in 2024.[21] As of April 2024, there have not been any further updates.
