Background
This 2 x 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant is one of the three "establish first and then reform" projects to provide a clean, efficient and supportive power supply to Jiangsu province.[7]
The power station would be on the southwest side of Zhangjiagang Shazhou power station.
Permission to build was granted on 28 October 2022 by Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission (苏发改能源发〔2022〕1250号, portal update timestamp: 2023/01/16).[8] It was reported the construction for this plant may have begun on November 25, 2022 but concrete was poured into the foundation of the main structure at the end of June 2023, which indicates construction officially began.[9][10]
As of May 2023, EPC information for Jiangsu Guoxin Shazhou power station was available. The project was slated for operation in 2025.[11]
In October 2023, a ceremony of concrete pouring for Unit 1 was held[12]. In December 2023, the first boiler steel frame was erected[13].
In May 2024, the main plant structure was completed[14]. In June 2024, the boiler header was lifted[15].
In February 2025, the generator rotor for Unit 1 was inserted[16]. In March 2025, the generator stator was positioned[17]. In July 2025, Unit 1 achieved grid connection[18].
In August 2025, Unit 1 completed its 168‑hour trial run[19].
In September 2023, the first boiler steel frame for Unit 2 was erected[20].
In March 2024, the boiler heating surface was lifted[21]. In May 2024, the high‑pressure heater was positioned[22].
In June 2025, Unit 2 achieved grid connection[23].
In July 2025, Unit 2 completed its 168‑hour trial run[24].
