Background

The first four subcritical coal-fired units of Jiangsu Sheyanggang power station, totaling 540 MW, were brought online in 1992 and retired in 2008. The plant is owned by Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group.[4]

Units 5-6 totaling 1,320 MW were brought online in 2011-2013.[5][6]

Proposed expansion

In 2015 it was reported that an additional 1,320 MW (2 x 660 MW) has been proposed at the same location.[7][8]

There were no further developments until May 2020, when plans for the units were revived.[9] The units were permitted for construction in December 2020, as 2 x 1,000 MW.[10] Construction began in June 2021.[11]
