Background

City of Jieyang and Kunlun Energy Company Limited, a listed subsidiary of PetroChina, were planning to build an LNG terminal in Jieyang, Guangdong. The total investment was estimated at 6 million yuan. It was originally planned two phases with 3 mpta of phase 1 and 3.5 mpta of phase 2. Due to the limited size of the site, the two phases will be combined as one phase of 6.5 mtpa of receiving capacity with three storage tanks of 200,000 cubic meters each. A 3~266,000 cubic meters of LNG special jetty was also included. Kunlun Energy hoped to receive permit for construction at the second half of 2021.

The project was listed in Guangdong Province's 14th Five-Year plan for gas development in December 2021.

In Jieyang City's Five-Year-Plan for Energy in April 2022, it detailed the project as an LNG terminal with 3 mtpa of receiving capacity, including three storage tanks of 200,000 cubic meters each and a 3~266,000 cubic meters of LNG special jetty. The city plans to accelerate the approval and the construction of this project, aiming the operation at 2025.

As of February 2023, the project hasn't received permit for construction.

As of February 2024, the project has no further news. It's considered shelved.
