Background
As one of the peak-shaving supporting power sources for the Hexi clean energy base in the Tengger Desert, the Gansu Huadian Jinchang Tengger 2×1000MW coal power project started the project preparation stage in 2023. The call for the project environmental impact assessment was released on 1 February 2023[5] and the call for feasibility study design was announced at the end of March[6].
Major equipment contracts were awarded in early 2024[7]. By September 2024, construction officially commenced with excavation[8]. Equipment procurement and construction tenders continued through 2025[9].
In 2025, significant progress included boiler beam hoisting, cooling tower column work, and boiler heating surface placement[10][11]. In October 2025, Unit 2 boiler steel hoisting and other activities advanced.
In 2026, generator rotor placement for Unit 1 occurred in March[12], Unit 2 generator stator placement in March[13], and power transmission was achieved in June 2026[14].
