Background
The 2 × 660 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power station was part of a mega 'solar-pumped hydro storage-coal power' project.[2] It appeared under discussion starting around 2021. The units were permitted in 2022, and reported under construction from October 2022,[3][4][5] even though it was unclear if concrete pouring had actually began.
In January 2023, the winning bidder for the project's topographic survey and mapping was announced.[6] In the same month, a construction contract for the power station was signed and approved by the People's Government of Jixi.[7][8]
