Background
KOGAS is building a new 11.6 mtpa LNG import terminal in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province. The project involves the construction of a new onshore receiving terminal comprising 10 LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 200,000 m3, developed in two phases. The first phase involves the construction of four tanks and is scheduled for completion by 2025. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2031. In November 2020, KOGAS successfully carried out the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering test on the island of Geoje off the southern coast.[5]
In May 2024, LNG Prime reported that KOGAS had completed raising the roof on the first LNG storage tank.[6]
The project is believed to be receiving equity financing from KOGAS.[7][8][9]
As of April 2025, the project schedule indicated that Phase 1 was set to come online in 2027 and Phase 2 in 2029.[10] A September 2025 LNG Prime article suggested that Phase 2 would come online in 2028.[11]
