Background on Mine

The Kartali mine was first proposed in 2011. Because very little information has been released about the project since then, it was presumed cancelled. However, according to a 2022 report by the International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iForest), the project's environment clearance is still pending and has been delayed due to lack of forest clearance. SECL expects the mine to begin operation by October 2025.
