Background

The Kedrovskiy (Kedrovsky) coal mine (Кедровский разрез) is a surface mine in Berezovsky, Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.

The Kedrovsky coal mine is operated by Kuzbassrazrezugol, which is owned by Ural Mining Metallurgical Company.

The mine was commissioned in 1954 when its capacity was 300 thousand tonnes of coal per year. In the 1960s the Latyshevsky mine and the Khorosheborsky mine were joined into the Kedrvosky mine. The combined enterprise's capacity increased to 3 million tonnes of coal per year.[5] In 1964, the Kedrovsky mine was incorporated into the Kuzbasskaryerugol company. Around 2003, the enterprise was reorganized into the Kedrovsky open-pit mine, and 10 years later, into the Kedrovsky coal mine branch of the Kuzbassrazrezugol.[5]

Within the mine, there are two coal seams - Kemerovo and Volkovsky. The average annual production is about 5 million tonnes, with balance reserves of over 70 million tonnes.[5]

There are no 2022 production figures, however Kuzbassrazrezugol reported in its 2022 annual report that the volume of well drilling and the volume of rock blasting at the mine increased by 3% and 0%, respectively, compared with 2021. This can be an indication that production has remained more or less the same in 2022.[6]

In January 2023, a fatal incident occurred at the mine when a truck ran over an employee.[7]
