Background on Mine

The Koyagudem opencast coal mine projects consisting of Koyagudem OC-I, OC-IIand OC-III are operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, is located in village Koyagudem, Mandal Tekulapalli, District Bhadradri Kothagudem, State Telangana, India.

There is not much information available on the Koyagudem OCP-I except that 236.000 Ha of forest land was diverted for the project in 2000 areas.[3] The Koyagudem OCP-II of 2 MTPA on an area of 816.11 Ha received its environment clearance in 2007[4]

In January 2017 the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) proposed Koyagudem Opencast - III Project (KOC - III Project) which falls in Lingala-Koyagudem Coal belt of Godavari Valley Coalfield located near Koyagudem Village of Tekulapalli Mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana State. The project covers an area of 16.076 sq. km which is carved out of Koyagudem Geological Block - I & Block - II. The project is designed for a rated capacity of 3.60 MTPA with peak capacity 4.80 MTPA (from 11th year to 18th year of project life) in the mining lease area of 1607.60 Ha. which includes 1158.93 Ha. of forest land. Out of 1158.93 Ha of total forest land requirement, 464.77 Ha of forest land has already been diverted for mining purpose. Mining lease is to be obtained for the part of the project, since, the areas under the mining lease i.e. KOC - I Mining lease (247.00 Ha-valid up to 13.05.2031) and KOC - II Mining lease - Phase I (231.94 Ha FL - valid up to 25.02.2028) will also be utilized.[5]
