Background
The units listed on this page as 6, 7, 8, 9 are sometimes listed as 1, 2, 3, 4 in company and government documents.[24] The units became operational in 1962-1966.[25] In the database, the start year is listed as the earliest 1962.
In May 2019, the project for the modernization of three 145-MW units was approved by the government commission on the development of the electric power industry. This project includes replacement of the turbine units 1-3 and of the main elements of the boiler equipment.[26] In October 2020, it appeared that instead of replacing the turbine units, the company decided to update the existing equipment (replacing the rotors only) and was searching for a supplier of this equipment.[27] There were also several tenders that received no applications since the announcement of the project in 2019, likely delaying the modernization project.[27]
In October 2021 and October 2022, the Ural Pipe Plant completed manufacturing the first and second of three turbines (turbine type: ПТ-150/160-12,8) to be supplied for this project, respectively, indicating that turbine replacement will be soon going ahead.[28][29] The contract for the supply of three sets of turbine equipment was signed in 2020 with LUKOIL-Kubanenergo. The third turbine is expected to be manufactured in 2023.[28] As of October 2022, modernization works were underway without specific updates on the stage of the first or second turbines.[30]
In December 2021, construction work and installation of the main turbine equipment were ongoing at Unit 7, meaning that Unit 7R has advanced to construction.[31] Since the turbine has been manufactured for Unit 8R in October 2022, it is fair to assume that at that time the unit has advanced to pre-construction.[32]
In September 2023, Unit 7R began operating and Unit 7 was retired. In November 2023, Unit 8R was successfully tested.[33] It is expected to be commissioned in 2024.[34] In March 2024, the Ural Chemical Machinery Plant (Uralhimmash) manufactured and shipped the second set of drums with internal devices intended for the TGМ-94 boilers at the Krasnodar power station. The shipment of the third set is expected by the end of 2024.[35] The Russian Ministry of Energy 2024-2029 energy program does not mention replacement of Unit 9 and lists its current and future installed capacity as 145 MW. [34] Thus, the unit might be upgraded without replacement of the turbine.
