Background

In 2020, Enel produced a draft proposal for an upgrade to La Casella power station units 2 and 3 which would increase their capacities by 37 MW each.[6] Additionally, Enel began the project "Centrale Termoelettrica La Casella – Installazione di una Nuova Unità a gas" that same year. The new gas unit is proposed to be built in two phases, a gas turbine of 590 MW is set to be built and operated in the first phase, then a 280 MW waste steam recovery system is expected making the units into one combined cycle.[7]
