Background

Scientists conducted a study analyzing soil samples and medical records of residents living around the cement plant. They found that major sources of heavy metals came from raw material preparation and discharge during production[3]. When looking at medical records they also identified that there was an increase in diseases linked to heavy metal exposure[3].
