Background

In 2024 owner Holcim broke ground on a new kiln line and CO2 processing unit at its Lägerdorf cement plant. The line will include an OxyFuel kiln, and is predicted to capture 1.2 million tonnes per year of CO2 from the plant, nearly 100% of the plants carbon emissions. The new line is expected to be operational by 2029.
