Larco Larymna smelting plant (Συγκρότημα Εργοστασίου Λαρύμνης (ΣΕΛ) της Γ.Μ.Μ.Α. (Greek)), also known as LARCO and GMMA, is a 1150 thousand tonnes per annum (TTPA) electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Fthiotida, Thessaly, Greece.
Location
The map below shows the location of the steel plant in Fthiotida, Thessaly, Greece.
- Location: Larymna Lokridos, GR350 12 Fthiotida, Greece[1]
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 38.564265, 23.293695 (exact)
Background
The Larymna smelting plant processes nickelferrous ores (laterites) to produces ferronickel with 18-24% nickel content.[2] Ferronickel is used in the industrial production of stainless steel.[2] Larco General Mining & Metallurgical Co. S.A. also operates four mines, which supply the laterites to the Larymna smelting plant.[2]
